Southern Africa
The ships of the Speical Service Squadron spent Christmas of 1923 at Cape Town in South Africa.
On arrival in Cape Town there was a reception. On the same evening there was a banquet at the Town hall which a hundred officers attended.
On December 24th a naval Brigade of 900 seamen and 300 marines marched through the city and lavish hospitality was given by the people of Cape Town.
In return for the hospitalitythe ships had over fifty thousand visitors.
After visits to Port Elizabeth, Port Alfred, and Durban the ships headed north up the East Coast to visit Zanzibar

Many of the sailors had the opertunity to meet local Zulu people.
