Operation Husky was the codename for the invasion of Sicily in July 1943. British, American and Canadian forces landed in Sicily on the night of the 9/10th of July to begin the Allied invasion of Sicily, which led to the invasion and full capitulation of Italy in September 1943.

The Royal Navy helped land over 160 000 Allied soldiers fresh from their victory in North Africa. The Regia Marina (Italian Navy) put up little defence but did manage to sink some vessels with submarines and torpedo boats but at a significant cost.
