On the 25 April, Humphrey’s crew spotted the Argentinian submarine Santa Fe and attacked it with depth charges. A Lynx helicopter from HMS Brilliant joined the attack, as did Wasps from Plymouth and Endurance.
Having crippled the submarine, the helicopters then landed the Royal Marines from Endurance near Grytviken. HMS Antrim and HMS Plymouth fired 235 shells as a demonstration of their firepower, while the marines closed in and established a mortar position. Antrim sailed into Grytviken, threatening to fire directly at the Argentinians. The Argentinians then surrendered. None of the ground forces on either side fired a single shot. The following day 26th April, the Argentinian garrison at Leith surrendered.
