Iris Preston recounts off watch activities whilst a Wren, such as playing requests on the piano.
Transcript 'Iris Preston: We did all sorts of things really. Some of us played hockey. Some of them I believe netball and tennis. In the better weather we were even known to get up before the early morning watch and go swimming. For myself I happened to be very fond of music so I found a small grand piano and that was me.
Interviewer: Do you play then do you?
Well I used to. I don’t do now but I used to, I used to play a lot. The room had two blocks either side and there was a piece across and the ‘rec’ room was there with a skylight and I used to have to open that skylight and then someone would send down a request and I had to play it while they were on duty. Perhaps one of the officers wanted something played. I wasn’t that good at it but I tried.'
