Twiss POW Transcripts

Admiral Sir Frank Twiss describing his clothing when captured as a prisoner of war

Transcript: We arrived in Yokohama and went alongside one of the jetties there where we were put ashore wearing these strange civilian clothes of all sorts and kinds and descriptions. We didn’t have many clothes each but they were just like a jumble sale, so to speak, they had been used. I had a rather smart grey coat on and a pair of trousers and that was all because I still had my own uniform shirt and my gear which was the white trousers because when I went to action I put on, as was customary, my best and cleanest white uniform suit so I had a pair of long white trousers and a shirt from my original thing and I had this civilian jacket and a pair of some sort of shoes.
