Mervyn Scott-Lindslay

Electrical Lieutenant imprisoned by the Japanese during World War Two

In August 1940, after the outbreak of World War Two, Mervyn Scott-Lindslay entered the Royal Navy and within a year had worked his way up to the position of Electrical Lieutenant. In 1941, whilst stationed with the Navy in Hong Kong, the Japanese forces invaded and took Mervyn as a prisoner of war. They held him at camps in North Point and Argyle Street until September 1945. Mervyn was an accomplished, amateur artist and during his imprisonment produced an impressive sketchbook illustrating his day-to-day life in the camps.
