Bain’s repatriation
Following the liberation of a prisoner of war camp at the end of World War One officials organised fleets of trucks to ferry the former prisoners back to a series of transit centres, the largest of which were situated in Brussels. After his release from Doberitz, David Bain spent a period of repatriation in Holland where, as a welcoming gift, he received a bar of chocolate. According to the wrapper, which he kept as a memento, the chocolate came with the compliments of the Royal Dutch cocoa mills in Holland. He later recieved the Victory Medal which commemorated the success of the Allied countries during the war.
