The failed attempts to salvage M2
The Royal Navy made two attempts to salvage the wreck of the submarine but the weight of the vessel meant that all such endeavours were unsuccessful. In December 1932 they made a third and final attempt to raise M2 but by late afternoon the wind had increased so much that the salvage team had to lower the stern of the submarine back to the seabed. Nowadays the Royal Navy uses M2 as a known target for sonar training.
