Anthea recalls the day in 1990 when she heard that women would serve at sea. On the 5th February 1990 the decision was announced in the House of Commons.

One day at the end of January, or the beginning of February, I was summoned by the First Sea Lord Admiral Julian Oswald who told me that women were going to go to sea, the decision had been taken, and that what was going to happen was that a group would be trained. A group of volunteers would be trained to go to sea and would join a ship called HMS Brilliant in September of that year.
It became obvious to me that we had come to a brick wall
