Harold Swift was born 18 April 1913 in Aldershot. He originally worked as a fitter's mate, but volunteered on 8 June 1931 for 22 years service in the Royal Navy.
He worked as a Stoker Mechanic and served on 19 different ships and establishments during his naval career. His naval service ended on 3 December 1953.
Swift was awarded the British Empire Medal at a ceremony onboard HMS Victory on 19 March 1954.
